The Mind, Body, Spirit Connect for Writers
By Kevin Urban
We’ve all heard about the Mind, Body, Spirit connection. Being a writer, I have realized this connection having greater importance in my life.
One way the mind and spirit are expressed is through writing. I would add that clearing your mind of worries frees the spirit. How can you concentrate on your writing with personal problems entering your thoughts? For many, their faith is their spiritual outlet. For others, it is a walk in nature, listening to music, or just quietly sitting, as in meditation. That being said, I believe every writer must have some kind of connection to their spiritual self in order to devote themselves to writing.
You can make your own jump rope, like I did, adding a sense of accomplishment to the experience.
Here’s how you make one like mine… cut two eight-inch pieces off of a wooden dowel for the handles. Then I selected a nine-inch piece of rope, using two eye-screws, connecting each end of the rope to a dowel. (I used nine feet of rope as it is the standard jump-rope length.)
If you decide to make your own, I suggest starting with a rope ten feet long, in case of any errors. If you don’t have the tools to cut a dowel, you can simply use a piece of rope with no handles. It’s that easy.
Don’t forget to take care of your mind, spirit, and body, while forging ahead with your writing life. It is a creative pursuit that can be hugely satisfying.
Please leave a comment below…. I would love to hear if you make a jump-rope, already have an exercise routine, or chose something else to do.

OMG I so agree…. and yea I sit too much, writing, contemplating….. a jump rope…. cool, a little hard on my knees but, that long piece of rope, hmmm, gets me thinking… I can imagine… that can have many uses and the alibi is built into the design – preventing a stiff butt.
